OPC Crossover BGS to PSA

Hey folks considering subbing the following for crossover to PSA

BGS 9.5 - 89 OPC Randy Johnson #186 - Subs Cent 9.5 / Corners 10 / Edges 10 / Surface 9.5

BGS 9.5 - 81 OPC Paul Coffey #111 - Subs Cent 9.5 / Corners 10 / Edges 10 / Surface 9.5

1. Would you send them in the BGS holders or crack and submit raw?
2. Given the subs are these likely sheet cut and to be rejected by PSA?

Thanks!

Yes, but the increase in value on the Randy is only $70.00.

I had a BVG 9.5 Rod Langway Rookie(80 OPC) that I tried to cross to a minimum PSA 9 a few years ago...didn't happen(sheet cut). My guess would be the same with your Coffey, not familiar with the specifics of the Randy Johnson card. Good luck if you do it!

I would send them back in to Bgs to try and bump them up to 10's. It could take a few submissions but with two 9.5's and two 10's on each card, their is a good chance it could bump.

    This.
  • Hmm so focused on PSA I didn't think of that. A BGS Pristine sure would be nice.

Crack and resubmit or send in holder ask for a re-grade? How does BGS accept those.

    I wouldn't crack them, just submit as a re-grade.
You can send them in the same way you would as raw cards. Just write on the form "minimum grade 10," for both cards.
You may want to check out the FAQ's for re-submitting graded cards on the Beckett website.

Honestly, it's worth a crossover shot. With 4 subgrades of 9.5 or better there is a good chance it will get into a PSA 10 holder, assuming they aren't sheet cut. That said, whomever said to take a shot at a pristine BGS grade is spot on.

  • Can you post a picture of the Coffey?
It's probably a sheet cut but maybe not.

My understanding is if BGS gives surface of a 9.5, the odds are lower that it would be sheet cut (they typically have a 9 surface). Depending on the potential increase in value, it could be worth spending $30 to sub them both for crossover. High subs means more likely, although the bgs 10 route is a viable option like others say.
