Inserts of today vs the inserts of the 90's - will they do as well?

Will those rare Derek Jeter cards now selling for $50 to $100 be the $700 cards of the future? Looking at recent auctions, it seems any nice 90's basketball insert or SP of a HOF player sells for mid 3 figures or above. How will today's HOF players rare cards fare? I am using Jeter as the example since he has a huge following.

I don't think so because there are so many "rare" inserts of each player produced every year now. In the 90s there weren't 50 different cards of each player produced each year that were serial numbered to 25 or less.

Why not? Scarcity drives most collectibles/antiques/old cars. 1996 Atomic Refractors are being billed that only 250-400 were made. For 1996 that is really rare. I think those cards will be at a premium.
