Question RE PCGS Restoration and Resale

Hello All,

I have been wondering - if a coin is bought raw and submitted for PCGS Restoration, serviced and then slabbed, how would any potential buyer of this new product know it is not covered by any grade guarantee? Or am I getting this wrong?

Eric

If they grade it they guarantee that grade.

So coins once considered problem pieces can now get slabbed as problem free after a little work? Is this work stable - oh, I forgot, stability in the slab is not guaranteed for anything.

Corbin, have you any comment on the 1941-S 50C in the this thread?

Not every restored coin can be graded. For example, if a coin that is covered in PVC is restored by having the PVC removed, the coin could be graded if the underlying surfaces are undamaged but it won't be graded if the PVC has eaten into the coin's surfaces leaving pitting.
