So ormandh (Dan) gave me a hard time with the images and was able to "virtually" educate me regarding my camera's capability to balance light or something like that. To me these look better now. This is my attempt to do a better job at it:

Nice coins. Your circ's look better than your unc's. They must be really nice circ's in hand!

As for the images, the effort is quite nice given the difficulty of the subject matter. The coins are very "busy", so it would be very hard to capture the hot and cold spots when they are at the same section of the coin's surface. I really like how you were able to capture the frosty luster from the two ChAU 1T pieces.

One suggestion I have, for the 1735 Salzburg, is to play with the unsharpened mask function. And, on most of the reverse images, you have a dramatic contrast between the hot and cold areas. The next time we see each other, remind me of this -- I may have an idea for you but it'll be too difficult to explain other than in person (it'll be difficult in person too, just less so).

Thanks for this EVP - I am doing this under a desk lamp with a 5 year old pocket camera in my hand - I dont have a setup and am nervous about shipping these to professional photographers.

I may come up for the day to Baltimore and we can make use of the limited time there. Coin photography is an expertise of its own which I really do not have a grip on.

I love the reverse on that 1/2 Taler, and my favorite from this grouping is The Hungary 1603 Taler.

Looks like with Dan's guidance you were able to nail the white balance.

The next step would be to play with different light angles to get some of the color to show more vividly.

Just bought one of Zohar's goetz medals. The 1927 Germany silver Kienast-386 Hindenburg. What a fantastic medal. This was my first Goetz and it is a beauty. My photos would not do it justice. Perhaps Z could post his picture of it here. Thanks Zohar for making my day.
