Submission Question for Experienced PSA Members

I have about 200 cards that I would like to send in and get graded. When I first became a member I would send about 20-30 cards that were a combination of modern era and vintage cards. It seemed to me that the vintage cards always graded lower than my expectations. However when I began to submit vintage by themselves it seems that the grades were higher and closer to my expectations.

My questions for the longtime submitters are:

1. Is it better to send in smaller submissions that consist of similar cards (example 1950's BB, 1970's BB, etc) so that the graders are only looking at other cards of the same era. (My personal belief was that perhaps the pristine modern cards with their bright color and sharp corners subconsciously affected the graders opinion of the vintage cards.) OR am I just paranoid about the situation?

2. If you send the cards in as smaller submissions do you have to send them in separate packages thus costing substantially more for shipping and insurance or can you still combine into one large shipment?

3. Does combining the orders cause a delay in the grading process?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

We can all speculate on the best way to maximize results, but I'm not sure any response you get will be based on real insider knowledge. I think most will tell you it is wise to send in orders in which the cards are mostly from the same couple of sets. And you can combine multiple orders in the same package.

It sure would be nice if PSA would respond to these sorts of threads once in a while.

I have had some luck submitting similar, and in some cases, the same cards at one time. I think it can almost "force" the grader to give some better grades. On the other hand if a couple of items are in lesser condition it can backfire.
