machin's mills?

I bought this coin in a lot of colonial cents (New Jerseys and Conn.) - Is it a Machin's Mills counterfeit?

Hi, in answer to your question -- sorry, but this is not a Machin's variety (more accurately referred to as Atlee coppers, since Atlee was producing coins on his own before he joined with Thomas Machin). There is only one recognized George II Machins, the Vlack 1-47A. The V 1-47A is date-punch linked to other Machins pieces. There are obvious differences from the Vlack 1-47A to your coin. Your coin is still neat for what it is; probably a contemporary counterfeit of the royal coinage of the period. Much of the currency circulating in the US colonies was comprised of counterfeit coinage such as yours and led to the Coppers Panic of 1789.

One way to determine whether it is even a contemporary counterfeit is to weigh it accurately. If it is not substantially underweight, it's probably Regal. I agree with lakeshore that it is not a Machin's Mills variety, though.
