An issue that has haunted me for over 17 years.

In the 1995 A.N.A. Anaheim Signature sale by Heritage, an 1878 7TF Reverse of 1879 Proof 64 PCGS Morgan dollar was offered with little fanfare. The catalog gave a vertical half page listing, with black and white photos and no information about the possible provenance of such a classic rarity. The HA archives indicate a hammer price. In the interim of nearly 18 years, I have only witnessed two other examples offered publicly, a fixed price offer by Jay Parrino of a PCGS PR-61, and the NGC PF-64 sold by DLRC from the Richmond Collection. Neither of those latter examples are possible matches for the 1995 Anaheim coin. I even asked the late Jack Lee about it, and he could not confirm knowledge of a possible owner at the time. I know where the Richmond Pedigree coin resides now, but no one in the elite circles of Morgan dollar collecting seems to know what happened to the Anaheim PCGS PR-64. I've put this coin on my bucket list, even if just to view it in hand. Any body here want to volunteer some insight? A pair of PCGS PR-64 (pop. 2, none finer at PCGS) coins are listed in the Registry, neither of which are imaged. Maybe one of these is a match?
