1991 Fleer Pro Visions Baseball Advice

I am a new member and was reading some previous posts and I love this site. I am writing for some advice on the 1991 Fleer Pro Visions Baseball insert cards. I have about 20-30 complete sets of these and I love them. They were ahead of the times in artwork with beautiful color and designs. I have done some research on this set and I'm uncertain about getting a set of these graded. I noticed on 11-24-12 a Don Mattingly PSA 10 sold for $78.10, and 2 months later another Mattingly PSA 10 sold for $25.04 on eBay. The PSA 9 card of the same Mattingly regularly sells for $1. That is a wild range of figures. I've looked through these cards and they look very sharp, but I did notice that all the Daryll Strawberry cards are off center a little bit from top to bottom and the Bo Jackson cards look like 9's. Has anyone else had these issues? I'm open to any suggestions or advice on this set. "I was going to sell each one online for $2" now after seeing the Mattingly I don't think I will. image

They call me "Pack the Ripper"
  • If you truely love "The Cards" collect them for what they are, not what you precieve them to be "worth". You will only end up giving your money away for opinions you won't agree with. Enjoy the cards and don't get caught up in all that "Whats it worth" hype.

    just sayin

    Welcome to the boards!

As dktt49a posted, that link will show you a lot of information. Also, here is a link to my Registry Sets. If you are a PSA member and have website access, you can view mine and others Pro Vision sets.

As for advice, what is your desired end result?? If you want a Mint+ PSA graded set, as corncobb said, you will likely have frustration with submissions. You are likely to grab some Mint 9's, but the black borders show a lot of defects at times. Starting out with 20-30 complete sets is good, though.

I achieved my PSA set by mostly buying boxes of unopened 1991 Fleer and ripping packs.......A LOT of them image. One of the reasons we rip and submit is because of the low overall POP's for this set. There are about twice as many PSA cards now as there was a year ago, but you still don't see them too much. If you have patience, you can wait until some hit eBay. Low overall POP's are another reason you see wide swings in sale prices. Also, the set isn't widely collected in PSA form. If a couple Registry members already have a PSA 10 of a certain player, a new auction for one isn't going to bring as much.

As for the Strawberry, that is one of the hardest to find centered. To me, it is the key card in the set because of this. There are no PSA 10's. I'm guessing the centering issue is from being at the end of the sheet. There also are no PSA 10's of Sierra and Canseco.

If you want to find "middle ground", I would just submit your best raw example of each player and see what comes back. Then you will have a complete set and you can upgrade in the future off eBay.

I'm just glad you enjoy the set and that is indeed most important. They are gorgeous no matter what.

If you want to PM me for more info. or questions, please do so!! Best of luck

I strongly encourage spending $6 to grade cards that can be purchased on the open market for.25. I don't see how it could possibly not pan out in the end.
  • Thanks for the advice. I do love the cards, and I'm glad to see some others do as well. I think I will submit best cards from each complete set and put together at least a PSA 9 set. I'll let you know how everything turns out. Loving this site!!!
