I've really come to love a lot of the 19th Century material out there. The cabinets have been increasingly attractive. I thought this one presented a great image of one of the more influential players in the early wrestling and boxing world, so I had to add it to the collection.
William "Iron Duke" Muldoon (also featured on N28 Allen & Ginter, N184 Kimball, N162 Goodwin Champions, 1896 Whitehead & Hoag Pin and N332 S.F. Hess among others) was a World Greco-Roman Wrestling Champion, a drummer-boy in the Civil War (at the age of 12), served as a volunteer in the French Army in the Franco-Prussian War (at the age of 18), spent 5+ years as an NYPD office retiring as a detective. He then began training wrestlers and boxers and his stable of athletes included the likes of: John L. Sullivan and Gene Tunney. In 1921, Muldoon was appointed the inaugural Commissioner of the New York State Athletic Commission. He is also a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. Muldoon passed away at 81 in 1933 and is interred in a private mausoleum in Valhalla, NY.

Very cool writeup - Muldoon was an interesting character - a "soldier of fortune" - a man of many trades if ya know what I mean?
Congrats on a really nice pickup!
Thanx for the writeup.
But then again, that look was somewhat the norm in the era...
<< <i>Scott, I was posing for my wife like that last night. Classic!!! >>
Depends on what you're going for?
If I did that? The LMAO's would be flying all over the place.

Yeah, she likes that . . .
<< <i>I think he looks like the guy who played the terminator in T2- a Baldwin, I think? >>
Robert Patrick?
In all seriousness I think any card that has survived since the late 1800's is really cool.
<< <i>"Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?" >>
Joey, have you ever been in a... in a Turkish prison?
Nice rasslin' card, Scott.
