Pete Rose - Lance Armstrong - Barry Bonds - Hank Aaron

What are the effects of PEDs, induction into the Hall of Fame and surrendering awards on the price of cards?

Pete Rose 4,256 hits... no PEDs, bet on 100% of Cincinnati Reds games as a Player/Manager... will probably never get into the Hall of Fame. His cards are priced at the levels of the Best Hall of Fame players!

Lance Armstrong 7 Tour de France wins... PEDs... surrendered most of his awards.

Barry Bonds 762 Home Runs... PEDs... will probably never get into the Hall of Fame. His cards are priced well below even the most below average Hall of Fame players.

What are the odds of MLB removing Barry Bonds as the Greatest Home Run Hitter of All Time? Are the prices for his cards reflective of that potential? Who would receive his 7 MVP awards? Would it be impossible to "handle" Barry Bonds in a similar manner to the way Lance Armstrong was handled?

Hank Aarons cards are priced in line with the Best Hall of Fame players of All Time. If Barry Bonds was forced to surrenced his Home Run record; would Aaron's cards increase in value?

Bonds cards have no or little value compared only because the mass production!!! If they were vintage bonds cards would be highly valuable no matter happened to him

I don't think the prices of Bonds' cards would decrease much in the unlikely event that his records and awards are taken away. They already decreased significantly.

Would Aaron's cards increase? Maybe an insignificant amount. They probably didn't drop much (or at all?) when Bonds broke his record, right?
  • I think likability factor is something that is not factored in.

Many people love Pete Rose despite what he did, and so his cards maintain HOF status. Hank Aaron is loved elevating prices.

Now Barry Bonds, who had a HOF career may not see his prices go up much, even if he does get into the hall. I think his personality has a lot to do with it.
Consider Don Mattingly, someone who may never make it to the Hall, still is very desirable in the market place, as many other players who showed leadership, team player, courtesy on and off the field, etc.

Yes, that Don Mattingly guy has become pretty likable in the last 2 or 3 years for some reason!

Adding Henry's name in the title of your post in conjuction with those cheaters is a big disservice to his legacy.

He raised his career likability average. lol Perhaps not as high as Mantle, but for a modern non-HOF'er, its pretty good.
