ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries and collecting instincts

Every time I watch those rerun ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries I end up wanting to buy the cards of the subjects in the doc's. My collecting instinct is so strong, but I manage to fight it most of the time. Today I'm trying not to buy Bo Jackson PSA 10 rookies. Last month it was Marcus Dupree. A few months ago it was Eric Dickerson...

Anyone get hooked on a player because of seeing something like this?

No, but I do get hooked after seeing some of the cards posted on forums like this. Those are great shows btw.

And miles to go before I sleep,

61* does that for me. Whenever I see the movie, I have to pull my '61 set out for a look.

I do get the urge to buy cards based on what I see in threads here too. I am always tempted to buy junk era error cards. Something about being able to buy something now that was so elusive as a kid.
  • Does this thread EVER speak to me! I am a huge Bo Jackson fan and after the 30 for 30 special premiered, his cards (mostly PSA 10s) have seen a jack-up in price. I strongly believed that special was the reason for it. I sold a huge set of every Bo related PSA RC about 10 months ago and didn't fetch nearly what they would get now. His PSA 10 1987 Topps Tiffany is getting $65-$75. Ridiculous. I bought mine for about $30 two years ago. It's just a matter of time til the effect wears off.

I will admit that I am guilty of buying Marcus Dupree's USFL RC after seeing the 30 for 30 special image

    Currently collecting PSA graded:

    1991 & 1992 Fleer Pro Visions
    1952 Topps

I too had to pick up a Marcus Dupree USFL RC after seeing that one. I'm addicted to that series
  • Yes.

I scope out the rookie cards and first autos of nearly every single 30 for 30 doc featured person. I was even trying to find cards and autos of that amazing BMX guy.

    I have a problem.

    I knew I wasn't alone on this.

I wonder what Ben Wilson auto's sell for...

    Hasn't helped me sell my PSA 9 '85 Petrovic : (
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
