Had an interesting visit from a S.S. special agent today, 1/30/13.

Seems as though they have become involved with investigating a local attempt to peddle counterfeit coins, including some in counterfeit holders with a four letter abbreviation for a TPG. I got the impression that I learned as much as the agent did. Looks like 3 hots and a cot real soon for smoebody. image

Any images you can share of these couterfeit holders, or what coins are being placed in them?

Just so we know what to look for.

Be thankful these people are working for us all.

(edit , previously typed "men", but meant men and women working on the right side of the law)

Hard labor would be more intimidating/appropriate. The way the picture's painted, three hots and a cot ain't such a bad deal for some people, nowadays. Built in social safety net for when caught at their misdeeds.

They always seem to get a slap on the wrist because its not a violent crime. Of course now even violent criminals get off easy.

I believe a few egregious eBayers getting well publicized jail sentences of even a year or two would clean up a lot of the resale activity. It's like when good color copiers came out and people were copying ones...you look at possible counterfeiting sentences versus getting a free ride on the metro, and it's really not worth it.

Glad to see that there is something being done. Counterfeits have been hurting the hobby for some time and its only appropriate for the Secret Service to protect the integrity of US coinage/currency past and present

Sorry, no images. Secret Service isn't about to let me photograph evidence. They're all key date fake Morgans, representing some of the Top 10 in the series. All with assigned grade of AU-55.

When I first saw the title to this thread I quickly checked to make sure it wasn't started by Dan Carr.image

The items were brought to me for evaluation of authenticity. They're all bogus, as I stated earlier in the thread.

They are probably just scoping out a candidate for a new Federal Reserve Chairman or Treasury Secretary.

Pretty soon the Gov't will want a background check and fingerprints run before we purchase a slabbed coin.

If you are still talking to the guy, how about putting a bug in his ear about the disappearing coins traveling through Anaheim.

They'll also want to register them in case they want to confiscate them at some future date.imageimage
