ms64PL Columbian INS Holder info

  • Those holders are about equal to accugrade. Keep in mind even accugrade had a nice coin now and then but when I use to see these more often they got no respect.

Haven't seen one of these INS holders in a long time. Thanks for the memory jog!

The holders are not that rare, but are tough to find. Treat the coin as raw when grading. I am not sure how much a Columbian would go for as I don't know the pricing, but if the coin is a 63, for example, it will probably bring close to 63 money in the INS holder. NGC, ANACS, or PCGS plastic around the coin would likely bring more money.

Some of the Morgan dollars in INS 64 and 65 holders have brought decent money in the past year or so on eBay, but I am not sure if it was because of the collectability holder or somebody "believed" the grade and bid accordingly.

I sold a dozen or so of these INS holders with common date Morgans in 2011. They went for about 1-2 point lower PCGS Morgan money. They are not rare by any means. If you troll eBay you'll snag some. Never saw a Columbian in that holder before. If the coin is nice I'd crack it because you won't get much love or money for it on eBay!! Cool find in any case.

You'll get no love from me for it, since I sold it to you as more than a point less than what the holder says. I could see the coin ending up in an MS-64 holder ATS though. image

Pardon the highjack, but what does ATS mean? I see it mentioned often here.

Treat the coin as a raw coin. Not likely NGC would PL such a coin, and PCGS does not PL Classic Commemoratives.

Looks like a very nice coin. Similar to the one I cracked out of a PCGS 64 holder and put in my Dansco.
