84 topps Marino "questionable authenticity"

In my latest thread, I posted about my recent Bgs submission where my 84 topps Dan Marino came back ungraded with a note saying questionable authenticity.
Is this common for this $50 card?
Has anyone had this happen?
Does anyone know what to look for with a counterfeit Marino rookie?

This card is well known to have been counterfeited. I have held one and looked at it closely. [A dealer friend of mine ended up with it as part of buying a large collection where he hadn't looked at it individually.] That card was noticeably thinner and lighter in weight than the real thing, and the colors just didn't look quite right. Under magnification, print dots were apparent in what should have been solid colors and lines.

Your fake may be from a different counterfeiting endeavor, but if it's from the big one that happened in the late 1980s, I would expect that it would match the problems I described.

Wow, I can't believe someone actually responded to this post.
Thanks for the help Nick. I'm going to talk to the person I bought it from and see if I can get my money back. Doubtful but worth a try.
