1976 Topps Baseball grading question Looking for opinions on grades

I'm going through a bunch of nice 1976 Topps cards right now. Once in a while I will come across one player that always has these very light print bubbles on it, usually in the same spots. I'm not sure what exactly you call them, and hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about. How bad do these detract from the grade? Most of them have a few bubble spots so I wouldn't grade those. But what if just one tiny bubble spot is noticable? Does that automatically make it a 9 or lower?

The bubbles dont raise the surface of the card at all. They could also look like tiny water drops.

Thanks!

Posted some scans below. Any ideas on if I have a shot at some 10s?

THose are called fisheyes. It's a print error/defect and I don't believe card with one on the front could receive a 9 unless it is tiny and almost unnoticable. On the back, maybe.

I think I know what you're referring to and it's not fisheyes. They look like very light stains but they are part of the printing process. They have a very faint brown border in a non-smooth circular pattern. I'm not sure if they would downgrade for those as I don't submit them. If you have a star card like that, try submitting it and see how it grades before sending in a slew of commons with similar attributes. You can't afford too many misses with '76 commons.
  • post a pic, OP. My first impression was a fisheye but gemmint could be right.

yes gemint is right, you can really see them on the league leaders cards, almost like water stains- its the printing process.. they all have them, but its hit or miss on the grades, some down grade, some dont.

  • I skipped over those for now. But I'll post some scans tonight of the nice ones to see what people think. I'll also find a couple with the marks as well to scan.

    Thanks for the info.

I have always called them sugar spots.

  • I was able to wipe the spots off the card, so I have not idea what it was from. They were stored in a garage, so maybe humidity got to it a little? Anyway, here are the scans of some of the nicer cards. I have only gone through about half the cards so far. I have another 40-50 cards similar to the ones in the scans. Do I have a shot at some 10s with these?

They are not perfectly centered, so I think no 9's. My experience is that super-vibrant 9's get to be 10's with 76's.

Here's a couple I got back from PSA today:
