Non-X Boxes

I see some sellers on eBay stating they have "non-X boxes". What does that mean that a box does not have an x or a black line on the top? Why do they place more value on it saying its "rare" without it?

X-Outs
It goes without saying that any unopened material is better off from BBCE!

Non x-outs are very very rare as they were first on the market, or just a regular wax box.
The deal with X outs is that topps had a deal with vendors that any excess inventory that wasnt bought in say X year Topps would buy them back. But they would also sell the product that they bought back for less than face value. Well people started to take advantage of this and would buy the product at Topps's discount price but they would then turn the product back over to topps for there higher retail price buyback option. SO to stop this Topps would X out the boxes with ink so scammers couldnt take advantage of them. Very interesting part of topps history. Others can go into better detail but I think its something like that.
So in a jist. a box without the x means it survived that year without being sent back to topps or being busted by some cute kid. Tough to find.
