Looks like it had a dip long ago and has retoned. Looks uncirculated but hard to tell from the pics.
All coins kept in bank vaults.

I saw that one but forgot to bid on it. It's really hard to gauge the luster from those photos and discern it from the "toning" that the seller described on the obverse. I'll reserve any further judgement because it's impossible to tell from those photos.

Edit: Oh, and I think it's genuine.

I saw that one - I think its an AU with altered surfaces. Has a funny look to it.
  • I saw it too, I think it is a chatty semi PL AU that has been dipped and retoned. I save judgment on if it was harshly cleaned or not as I can't tell. It go as high as AU 55, worth a gamble but it is cirtenly a gamble

I saw it too. And looked at it long and hard. But I could not figure out the surfaces from the pictures so I did not bid. I would have liked to have seen it in person.

I like crypto79's "chatty semi PL AU " description.
That exactly describes what I see too.....and I like it.

I'll wait for your pics. Am I the only one that did NOT see it?

    It's real.

Well the coin arrived in todays mail. As I slowly unwrapped the layers of bubble-wrap I could tell the reverse looked very good.I got out my Bausch & Lomb 5X glass and was amazed at the luster and details present. There was no doubt it was at least AU-58 and maybe MS. I slowly turned over the coin over to inspect the obverse, the whole time silently praying for it to be as great as the reverse. Well , as luck would have it some nitwit sometime long ago had wipe it off with something and hairlined it. I think the coin is technically uncirculated but I will never know as I am going to return it for a refund. I had talked with the seller on the phone and he said he did not think it had been cleaned and offered a 100% guarentee and a full refund if not happy. Damn, I wish it had not been wiped as it would have been my nicest Trade $ to date. Here are my pictures that are not much better than the sellers.

  • Wow that was quick, it is really still a very nice 73s. I think it is nicer than my over dipped AU53 in PCGS plastic

Don't forget, there are other causes of hairlines like the rubbing from sliding plastic window sleeves in a blue whitman folder. Are you sure ?

While I agree, one this coin there seems to be to many wipes and a few directions.

Man that blows. I understand the feeling of unwrapping the multiple layers of bubble wrap all the while seeing a little luster peeking out taunting you.

My photo's were very forgiving, but I was trying to show the surfaces as best I could.Even if it did grade I would feel that it shouldn't.Seller has a 14 day return and we have a coinshow this Saturday in my town.I may try to get some other hands on opinions.

IMO, it's not an unc - it's a hairlined AU. If you paid more than $300, then send it back.

    .
    keep it.

worse pieces have sold for 4-500 easy and this looks like a nice piece, albeit wiped

a rather sought-after date in nice condition

i may change my mind if the hairlines are too abrasive

while this is correct after grading it looks like Dave will be in it about 450 which is right in its retail price range although admittedly the low side. With that said it is never that hard to buy properly price problem coins and I am pretty sure dave isn't looking for a full price dude
