Just Back From PSA T206 Sweet Caporal Frank Smith Chicago / Boston

I took a chance and picked up a card that looked good to me. I've asked over at Net54 what it's worth as it's out outside of what I collect. Hopefully, I'll get some good info over there, but if anyone here has any idea as to what kind of a "high" BIN with a best offer option on eBay would be, any help is appreciated. The VCP is all over the place since this card almost never pops up. It displays very well.

T206 Sweet Caporal Frank Smith Chicago / Boston
Series 350-460 Factory 42 Overprint (Factory 30 Showing)
PSA 4 that displays very well

Scanner was a bit fuzzy so in addition to scanner pics also added actual camera photos that give a better feel for the actual crispness of the text and colors.

That's a nice $50 card... I'm feeling a little charitable tonight... if you send me your e-mail address I'll send you a $100 PayPal gift for this card! image

101.11 and a cookie, no gift though!
Also I dont have a real answer I canceld my VCP membership
Safe bet would be to add 5-10% of the highest sold of this version in PSA 4 and have a best offer. Or even do the lowest sale of a PSA 5 with a best offer .
But this doesnt matter as you still have to have a price in YOUR head that you will take for it. There is no right answer for us to tell you want the card is worth.

The thing is I have no emotional attachment to it. I'm just looking to move it for a fair price. I don't know what that is. The card is weird rare. The only two sold on eBay were a Polar Bear back (much more common) PSA 4 for $188 and a Ole Mill PSA 5 that is about as rare of a back for $788.

There just isn't enough activity to put a good sell price on it. I may just auction it, but it's rare enough that people just might not be looking for it.

if you dont care. Just let it ride and auction the thing . People will be looking for it.
These are perfect for auction vs say a 1982 Cal Ripken PSA 8 Topps Rookie. You know thats a 30.00 card all day any day. But this is one where you will have 2 or more guys who NEED this card bc its rare. Auction is the way to go

Appreciate the advice - I may end up going this route on a 10 day auction.

dont be scared your card will do well. do you have much in it?
  • I have about $225 in it between buying and getting it graded. So not nothing, but I posted at Net54 and had a $275 offer in about 5 minutes. I do think auction makes some sense. I think there could be an outside shot of $500. It's a weird semi-recognized error with the 2 factory numbers on the back. Not to mention there are only 15 of this version/back graded total.

I bet if you do auction you will do better than you think. The card also looks undergraded so it could go for 5 prices

it may be a somewhat scarcer team caption change variation within T206, but its far from rare as far as PreWar cards go.... there are about 500-750 of the card out there....

its in the same league (or slightly less) as cards like GBrowneWASH, LundgrenCHI, KleinowBOS, DahlenBKN, but the SmithCHI/BOS sells for slightly less usually...

T206 are the most plentiful baseball cards ever made (pre1952).... this card is usually only in demand by complete set collectors.

99 cents and let it ride... It will sell itself, if properly listed on eBay..... all T206 cards do, as its the gateway set for almost all PreWar newbies
    good luck

  • well, I took your advice and put it up on eBay. I turned down a $400+ offer so I hope it works out. Who knows?
