Ugh does this mean Frank and Sons is gonna be dead Saturday?
No way I'm going to dodgerfest to stand I hour long lines, but it's a 45 min drive out to nerdfest and I don't wanna go all the way out there if the few sportscards guys will be closed for the day.
Here was the line to have the players sign your stuff Sorry, it was the line to get a wristband to get in line to see the players. It went up the hill to the end of the lot and continued to the right of the picture.
The Dodgers officially estimated the crowd at their fanfest at 21,000 people.
According to one of the Dodger fan bloggers I read, he got in that line at 10 a.m. (the fanfest opened for people who don't have season tickets at 11 a.m.). He got his wristband for an autograph (Tommy Lasorda) after 1:30 p.m. - he ended up getting a couple other players' autographs as well who were signing at the same time because there was very little line for them (Matt Guerrier and A.J. Ellis, IIRC).
Even getting a wristband didn't guarantee an autograph - I saw several blog comments from people who had Kemp, Mattingly, or McGwire wristbands and didn't get an autograph because season ticket holders got priority over wristbands.
The only thing people (or at least those who don't have season tickets) are saying went well about autographs was the Dodgers alumni autograph section - very short lines, no wristbands required, and signers included Bill Russell, Ron Cey, and Paul LoDuca (plus some players who were locally popular like Lou Johnson and Derrel Thomas)
As a Dodger fan I am just glad to see fans care enough to line up like that.
As for said fans... that is such a waste of time. I can not even imagine waiting in line, like that, to "meet" my favorite player of all time... or the president... or ANYBODY. It dumbfounds me.
Cardinals had their Winter Warmup Jan 19-21. Very big crowd but very organized. All fans had an equal chance at free autographs. You had to buy tickets for the big stars ahead of time...all money going to Cardinal Care (charity division).
