N3 Evidence of Recoloration on a Chrome card?? Please explain.

I just got a "N3 Evidence of Recoloration" on a Bowman Chrome refractor. How does someone recolor a Chrome card ?? They have a coating on them, don't they?

  • This doesn't shock me coming from PSA.
  • Just re-submit it.
  • Recoloring on the reverse?

That's what I'm thinking. They're just glossy and can have chipping on the
edges. eBay purchase I take it?

I am ticked to say the least. There is no way a chrome card can be recolored. I called PSA and all they would tell me is sorry the card was already shipped back....

Did it have a black border?

You would think it would be pretty tough to recolor a chrome refractor but if somebody took a pen or marker to a lightly chipped corner/edge and it leaked to the white edge stock it would be fairly obvious. This has got to be high on the checklist of things the graders look for. Doubt a scan would show the damage.

It was a 2000 Bowman Chrome Tom Brady rookie refractor. No way this card is recolored. I am ticked off.

That sucks but touching up the back black borders of Chrome Rookies has been going on since the late 90's.

To show people what the borders on these cards looks like here's a pic. People use a sharpie to darker any chips along the edges.

...it's definitely something that is looked for by graders.

Thanks for the info Vlad. I will check the card when I get it back.

On a happier note, they crossed over my other Brady rookie I submitted (was BGS 9):
