It was a decent show. Some very nice raw vintage baseball. Lots of new shiny stuff that was scribbled on. Over priced graded cards...Pretty much the same as every other White Plains show. As a basketball guy, not too much for me but always fun to be in a room full of cards.
There was a dealer i never saw before had some nice PSA cards of 1960s stars that i was interested in. He had multiples on many. For example had 3 or 4 PSA 8 1963 Aaron. I was looking to spend some good money with him but he was way way overpriced so i just had to walk away.
I was there on Saturday afternoon with my son... the crowd was pretty strong in comparison to previous WP shows I’ve been to.
I renewed my membership with PSA and dropped off some items to be graded for my Jackie Robinson Master Set. The staff at PSA always remembers my son and me, and it was nice to chat with them.
I walked around to see what was out there (nobody ever has the Jackie cards that I need), and chatted it up with a few dealers who were all very cordial.
I noticed a dealer talking it up with a kid who couldn’t have been older than 12-13 about the ’52 Mantle, and the pros and cons of the grading services. It was nice to see the dealer really listening to the kid, and respectfully debating with him. Not something you often see at these shows.
Anyhow, if you saw a man with a 3 1/2 year old that was talking non-stop about wanting a Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle signed photo - that was me.
PaulMaul, I'm currently building a 72 Topps set and am curious how much you paid for those two. If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to know to get an idea of what folks are selling those for. If you don't want to post here, please PM me.
Bought from my favorite dealer (as usual). He always seems to be in the same area, against the wall, a bit past the Nathan's. Tall guy, maybe 6'2'', maybe 35.
AWESOME customer service.
(1) Gave my neighbor's son (about 10) a free card when he asked how much it was. (2) He has $1 boxes, $2 boxes, etc. I always find cards I want. Whatever the total is, he always asks for less.
