Great score on The Road Warriors in an 8!!!

That is a tough card because of the perforation on those and how they are placed on the sheet!

Please post a scan when you get it back.

Thanks. Usually I don't like hand cut cards but this one looks enough like a regular card I decided to use this one in my personal collection. The carnation card is an awesome card too and the first true card. I think both are pretty cool underrated wrestling cards. It took me a long time to finally get a gradable one of the 85s. I actually think the hogan and flair cards from this set are even more difficult to find in good condition. Most of the sheets I've seen are way off center top to bottom.

I had a decent Hogan before and sold it but after looking at the other magazines realize it was pretty good. Oh well, live and learn, the centering on those are pretty tough as I have found out.

I'm anxiously awaiting bgs poppage on those. Psa will grade them eventually. Especially after other graded ones surface.

I can't wait to see your results. I just finished my book, Guide to 1970s and 1980s Japanese Mini Cards, and ordered a test copy. It has the 1974 and 1976 Yamakatsu Wrestling Sets as well as the 1974 Bruce Lee sets in it.....all-in-all I've documented and checklisted 33 sets. Some I was only able to complete partial checklists for, however. I already have about ~15 more sets to include in the Second Edition and that number will continue to grow. I've already seen over a 100 sets, but I still need to research a majority of those. Hopefully that will help convince PSA to grade them.

pmcollectour cut them for me. I was very happy with his work. He also cut a pacquaio card for me that I should be subbing soon. I heard that the guy from gone with stain will cut them too. Some people think its foolish to pay someone to cut them but its totally worth it to me. I've ruined cards trying to do it myself and learned my lesson

Chad I got a paper cutter for the sole purpose of cutting up one of these magazine sets and chickened out.

It is much harder then people think and once you cut there is no going back.

You made the right choice and the results show it two times in a row.

I go to a local shop and use their cutter as just simple home ones in my opinion just do not do the job as well...I'll continue to do this. So far I have had some success on my own but would not like the responsibility to try for others. The element of error is always there!

Just got the cards back from psa. Here is the road warriors. The card looks just like a regular trading card and is printed on decent card stock.

This is their rookie card, right?
  • Options
    eagles33eagles33 Posts: 2,678 ✭✭✭
It's their first card. I consider it their rookie but the card is hand cut. The card looks so similar to a traditional card i consider if their rookie. Its nothing like tge 73, 78 or 81 hand cut cards which were just printed on paper stock. They also have a 86 carnation card which is their first card that isn't hand cut and is quite rare. The 85 card is also tough. This is the first one to be slabbed. Rookie cards outside of the 4 major sports are always debatable.

I think you have to say it is the rookie card.

The 1985 Wrestling All Stars are a very cool set and feature tons of stars and regional stars. It has 54 perforated cards and I doubt you will ever see mint examples of Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair with where they are located on the sheet.

I helped a friend of mine sell the only Ric Flair PSA 8 and it went for a strong amount.

This was an excellent idea on your part to get this slabbed and you have to be thrilled with the results.

There is no doubt in my mind that you could easily get $50 for this card and perhaps north of $100.

I realize it is not for sale and part of your registry but it never hurts to recoup your costs and then some on cards.

    Great cards Chad!

    Two questions on these:

20899671 NEAR MINT-MINT 8 2003 PANINI SPORTS MEGA CRAQUES 137 CRISTIANO RONALDO Card - bgs 8.5 crack out

20899672 NEAR MINT 7 2004 PANINI SPORTS MEGA CRACKS BARCA CAMPIO 35 LIONEL ANDRES MESSI Card

    1. Did you buy the Ronaldo from me image via a probstein auction? I have a BGS 9 now and sold my 8.5 via him.

    2. Will you post a pic and then sell me the Messi? Pretty please :-)

Shoot me a PM when you have time.

Hey hookem. I bought the Ronaldo raw a while ago. Got it graded by bgs because psa wouldn't grade it even though I had an email from panini customer support detailing the specs of the set. Eventually psa decided to grade it so I cracked out my bgs one. The messi isn't the really rare one that you used to have. It's the fairly common one that's eBay pretty frequently Messi.

Nice Road Warriors. I wish mine was centered like yours and I could get pretty good coin for it. Here's mine signed by all 3. PSA/DNA sticker authenticated on back. I haven't seen another signed by all 3 but I also don't check around very often for them either.

Great info. My Ronaldo is in a BGS slab since PSA would not slab it. Since you got PSA to grade them, I will probably sub my BGS 9 as a cross. I want it in a PSA slab but would rather have a BGS 9 than a PSA 8 or 8.5. My subs are 9.5 for centering & surface, 9 for corners, and an 8.5 for the edges so I think it has a good chance to cross. If it does not cross straight I will probably then crack and sub.

As for my Messi, that is the one card I regret selling. I was not happy at all with the "low grade" of a PSA 6 but now would gladly pay double for it back. I did not realize at the time how hard it is to find. The one that got away. LOL

I do have some GREAT news in that I just agreed on a price for a 1958 Alifabolaget PSA 2 Pele rookie! I should have it in hand in a few weeks. I am going to sell my 1958 Rekord BGS 6 Pele. I noticed you have a 59 Heinerle listed on the BST boad and eBay. That is also a very cool card.

Thanks. I was hoping to reinvest that 105 into the 94 hurricanes sheet that ended last night but it ended about twice as high as my snipe. 300 was too risky to buy a sheet IMO. You never know how the cards will turn out.

I probably should have kept the magazine that I had as the other ones that I have seen have been quite OC and to my recollection my sheets were a lot better. I had no idea centering would be such an issue with these.

Cool. Wish I bothered to do that... Hopefully the Lewis and Rock grade well. Perforated cards are a complete crap shoot. I remember getting a psa 10 on an usain bolt si for kids but got a 6 on a tony hawk that looked the exact same to me.

The seller lives in south Florida so I should have them pretty quickly.

There is only one card ever graded from these and it was a Dwayne Johnson and it came back an 8. There are two cards graded by BGS and one is an 8.5 and the other is a 9.5 and both are Dwayne Johnson as well.

I personally think both the Ray Lewis and the Dwayne Johnson could do quite well in graded form and we will just have to see how these turn out.

I agree. Even the sap would prob do ok... Ray Lewis cards have really jumped in price since he announces his retirement. The bowman best was about 25 bucks now sells for about 100 in a psa 9. Looking forward to seeing them slabbed.

I will sub the Warren Sapp too. I am just hoping they are not creased or anything.

A friend of mine who is a long time collector said he believes these are extremely scarce with a very low print run.

I spent a lot of time doing Google searches looking for any info I could find and there is just nothing really out there on this set except for a few prior sales that show up on that Worthpoint site and a mention in a Beckett magazine.

The BGS 8.5 was listed on EBAY and I offered him $300 and he declined it and countered at $777. The seller also has an uncut sheet but won't sell it.

I thought I had hit a dead end for a while.
