Musial 3630 hits 475 hr 1951 rbi avg .331 obp .417 22 seasons
Williams 2654 hits 525 hr 1839 rbi avg .344 obp .482 19 seasons
Dimaggio 2214 hits 361hr 1537 rbi avg .325 obp .398 13 seasons
I think Musial was a fantastic player who is generally underappreciated by most.

Seriously. Musial was incredible as was Dimaggio, but even with just 3 of those seasons to give him 22 also, Wiilliams would have been at 650+ HR, 3200+ hits, 2200+ RBI. Tack on those other 2 and he would have retired the all timeleader in HR and RBI and he did not have the protection of a Gehrig or Mathews for most of his career.

those who would be made aware of a 7-time batting champ that they never knew of before now.
From the looks of things over the past 24 hours his passing certainly has bumped up interest in some of the higher-end Musial cards
currently available from his early days.

Musial was definitely close to Williams, but if anyone can't clearly see why Williams was better (than both of them), it is the Red Sox left fielder who is being underrated
<< <i>Musial was completely underrated because he played in St Louis...or as East Coast residents like to call it "Flyover Country" >>
Exactly. If Musial had played on the East Coast, he would have been as worshipped as Mantle.
What? No?
In case this may be happening. One can't "equate" the contributions of any great player with the "value" of their cards IMO.
My point? It's as much popularity as contribution and that'll always be a factor.
Heck - we have people here who have dedicated a good chunk of their time and resources collecting a player considered a "common" by most onlookers.
So - IMO - trying to compare "any" of the greats may actually be reduced to apples and oranges.
But, I always enjoy reading your spirited debates.
