Encased cents question.

When they made encased cents, did they use a random cent, or did they put a cent from that year in there?

  • Osborne coin in Cincinnati used either coins from a current stock or coins specified by the customer. They also used coins supplied by the customer. This information is reflected in the work orders which Bryan Ryker collected. These work orders cover approximately 1946 until late in the 1960s. As an example they made 1000 encased coins for BOBCO Coins. 500 were made with Panama centesimos and the other 500 with 1963 D cents.

That 8 year old would be 16 today.

I found the recent answer to be interesting. I have many encased cents and never really though about any significance of the date on the coin.

It really depends. Commercial cents were usually made with coins of that year, but not always.
