2012 Denali "S" Unc. USM Rolls Backordered

As of a few minutes ago, the USM placed the MS Denali "S" ATB 40 coin rolls (PL9) on Backorder. These coins will be unavailable very soon !! Mark. 1/19/13.

What's backordered mean exactly? Time to roll and box some more up maybe or sold out? What's the chance of getting some if you order today?

Backorder means that you have a very, very short period of time left to place your order. If the USM accepts your order, you should receive the product but there is no guarantee. The USM Reps. say that they have the item that you ordered but they have to get the product some place other than the USM Fullfillment center, Plainfield, IN. Hope that helps, Mark.

These coins IMO have the greatest percentage appreciation potential of all the 2012 products for those that got in at mint issue prices.

I ordered 2 rolls on the 15th they both shipped out yesterday, have 1 bag of 100 of the Hawaii S and missed the rest. With them selling all three rolls together starting this year, I agree last years should be a good purchase..................Enjoy

I bought 10 rolls of the 1st one opened one roll gave out 10 or so and set the rest free, I wonder where they are now? That was a good buy.

Any word on next year's mintages. I stayed away, since 1.4M is still a high mintage. It will be interesting to see how these develop over time.

It looks like a winner for flippers though.

The 1996-W dime has a 1.4M mintage and sells for about $14, and does not trade by the roll since it was only available as a single coin in the 1996 Mint Set.

I think the 2012-S quarters will be even scarcer as singles, as many people collect them as mint-sealed rolls and bags. Each collected roll locks up 40 coins, and each collected bag locks up 100 coins.

Since the rolls sold at a higher price per coin than bags, I doubt that many of the ~17,000 mint-wrapped rolls of each design will be broken up to supply the demand for singles. That leaves about 725,000 coins available from bags. Based on sales of Philly and Denver bags, a reasonable guess is that 2,000 to 3,000 bags of each "S" quarter design will be held back by bag collectors. This leaves around 500,000 or fewer coins of each design to fill the demand for singles.

Unlike the 1996-W dime, I don't expect the "S" quarters to reach $14 in the near future. But a significant rise from current prices seems to be in the cards.
