Guess the Grade - 1908 No-Motto Saint *** Grade Revealed ***

This is a coin that I received earlier today. It's not incredibly rare or speical .... some might even call it a widget, but take a stab at it. I'll post the grade this evening.

No fooling you guys. Most of you had it just right. Still, I think it's pretty clean for a 64 mark-wise. Mark Feld found this for me at FUN and it seemed like a great coin for the price.

Sounds about right. Doesn't look flashy enough for a higher grade. I'm assuming the pic is a true representation of what the coin looks like in hand.

I do see a coin that has nice, smooth surfaces with an absence of the marks that are usually present on Saints.
Nice coin.
<< <i>It's all about the luster, which is difficult to judge on the photo.

I agree with you. For me, understanding gold grading got a whole lot easier when I put more weight into luster and less into marks, which seem to be present to a greater extent than I was accustomed to seeing with silver and copper. I still have a very, very long way to go in knowing how to evaluate gold.
