Exceeding Your Limit on E-Bay ! Beware !

Morning,

So I'm breaking up a set on Fee-Bay over two nights, about 120 cards. The first night 80 auctions end and as I always do for those who only won cards from that night and aren't bidding second night stuff, send them an Invoice. I know this isn't a problem because for 13 years, if they choose to bid and win the second night, when the Invoice comes up it has a tab "Add other Eligible Items", you click on it and it puts both nights winnings in one Invoice so just one Shipping charge as long as they haven't paid the first Invoice.

So guy bids on another 25-30 items, wins, I go to send Invoice and the "Add other Eligible Items" isn't there. I mess around for 15 minutes trying to get it done and finally have to call E-Bay.

Another Great image experience with E-Bay! So when I finally get my PowerSeller rep he explains to me that they have decided that this is too many transactions with this Buyer (He won 79 Auctions) and so they won't allow me to combine Invoices. I politely ask him what are the rules and parameters for this rule and he tells me there aren't any, just when they decide. When I ask him why they would limit the amount that a Buyer could spend with one Seller, he of course has no explanation. I ask him if it is something to do with me as the Seller or him as the Buyer, and he states it is neither, they just decided that this is too many transactions between a Buyer and a Seller this particular time.

I give up and send the Buyer a second Invoice with no Shipping and E-Mail him explaining, and he pays and were all good.

I'm just so glad E-Bay is on my side and is looking out for me !!! imageimageimage

Have a Great Day !!!

    Thank goodness today is THURSDAY...;0
  • good post - bad news
not a time to start doing set breaks on ebay -
feel bad for the sellers in this space - its a nice venue to pick up some raw card set breaks.

  • I've never been able to send out invoices with more than 40 cards on them. Always had to send two or three (if the buyer bought more than 80 cards) invoices and just marked the shipping to be free on the additional ones.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

  • That has nothing to do with the buyer or seller. The maximum number of items on ebay invoices is 40. Happens to me all the time. It's a pain and it's another way for them to get just a bit more in fees via paypal.

I sold 57 graded '71s to a single buyer last week and had to send two invoices. I didn't realize it was because of this 40 max rule. Sounds like a stupid rule. Then again, we're talking about eBay here.

  • Just to let everyone know and I speak from experience. If you get someone who orders 60 items, they will have to have two invoices (40 on one and 20 on the other) -- that means two paypal payments. If you package everything in one package -- which is what we do -- then the buyer can file a chargeback on the "2nd package" unless you remember to go in and upload the tracking information on those additional 20 items.

We have adjusted our ebay settings so if your feedback is under 10 then you cannot win more than 10 items from us at a time to avoid this situation.

for future refernce, ebay will not allow any more than 40 items in one invoice. i am pleased to clear this matter up.

Yup. It's very annoying. My personal record is 130 items from probstein in 1 day (almost 60 of them were from a Dad's Cookies PSA set he was breaking up) - that's 4 invoices and 4 packages.

Wow, what a stupid ebay rule. I've never heard of this until now. They make doing business difficult on ebay.

Yet another great example why more sellers and buyers should try to take as many deals off line as they can
to avoid a mess like this.
