David Hall Grading 101 Seminar - February 9th

Saturday, February 9, 2013, at that the upcoming Long Beach Coin and Stamp Exposition, PCGS will present the first class in the new PCGS Collector Education Program.
The first class will be entitled "Grading 101" and will cover the basics of grading U.S. circulated and Mint State coins. The class will be presented by PCGS Founder David Hall, and veteran numismatist Michael Sherman, and will take place in four basic parts, 10:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.
The first part of the class will be a presentation of the elements that go into grading Mint State and circulated coins, along with tips and techniques used by professionals. This is followed by an exam, in which participants will be given the opportunity to put what they've learned to use by grading approximately fifty Mint State and circulated coins.
Following a break for lunch (provided by PCGS), the grading test will be discussed, and participants can review their results against actual PCGS grades to see in what areas they might need further instruction or improvement. An extended question and answer session will follow, whereby the attendees can ask as many questions as they wish related to coin grading.
Attendees who take this course should expect to enhance their skills and knowledge regarding the many aspects of evaluating and grading these types of coins. Collectors and dealers alike will benefit from this important foundation curriculum.
The first class Grading 101 is scheduled from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, February 9 at the Long Beach Convention Center. Attendance is limited to twenty individuals and signups will be accepted on a first-come-first served basis. The cost of the Grading 101 class is $199.00 and members of the PCGS Gold, Platinum and Diamond Collector's Club will be offered a $50.00 discount for a total admission price of $149.00.
Future offerings in the PCGS Collector Education Program include Grading 102 (expected to cover Proof Issues, Qualifiers, (such as color on copper and full strikes on certain nickel and silver issues) and Grading 103 that will cover "no grades" (which include coins placed in "Genuine" holders as well as coins, which cannot be holdered) and counterfeits. Certificates of Completion will be offered for all courses.
