Do you like autographed cards? ***POLL***

It's been a couple months... time for a POLL! image

When I grew up, autographs on cards were sacrilege. It was more acceptable to collect cards directly from the spokes of a bicycle then to have an autographed card. Autographs were for 3x5 cards, autograph books, baseballs and photos. Have the maufacturers of cards made autographs on cards more mainstream (acceptable)?

Yes, I like them and have some in my collection

I don't collect them, per se, but it's certainly not the case that I don't collect them either... so I had to make up my own response!

I like them a lot. I like regular Topps vintage and modern base cards rather than pack inserts. I have over 1,000 Cardinals signatures on regular Topps cards from 1952 to present.

I like them a lot. At this point in my life I have ZERO tolerance for standing in lines or waiting around for stuff, so realistically I am getting no autographs in person save for the players that live in my neighborhood(Downtown Los Angeles). But I still want something thats actually signed by the player and COA's aren't necessarily worth a damn, so getting a card in a pack, or buying an auto pulled from a pack is the next best thing.

Loved the recent discount on the Pete Rose living legends box. $20 shipped for one of those was a decent deal and it seems price + shipping on those on ebay has gone up a couple of bucks in the last few days.

My local dealer is selling the Pete Rose boxes for $20 while our local Target is selling them for $30. Definitely cheaper than getting his autograph in person!

I don't like them at all. I think autographed cards are garbage, and there is a ton of them being produced which may possibly lead to a flooded market of autos. Kind of like what happend with sports cards in the 80's and 90's.

But I guess many of them are numbered to a certain amount.....either way I don't like them.

Love vintage signed cards, but hate many of the newer certified - especially where the player has signed a sticker.

<< <i>I understand the how they can be collectable ... and valuable ... but they tend to look pretty messy to me ... especially the ones that already have the printed signature on them.

I much prefer an autographed action shot photo or baseball ... or even an index card. >>

I vehemently disagree with your position on this hobby related issue.

    ...

May all your cards be signed with mickey mouse turd.
  • Not a fan,

with the greed , fraud and corruption that surrounds auto's, I believe therevare way more fakes than people think.
I think 50% of the autos out there are fakes.

How could someone not enjoy something like this? (both autos obtained IP; not a certified signed card)

  • I love autographed cards, and I collect them. I am working on my autographed Boston Celtics card collection. However what I hate is when
facsimile signatures are used on trading cards. I often see auctions titled autographed card, but it's really just a facsimile signature printed on the card.

I voted yes but do not actively chase or collect them. Today's signers for the most part are sloppy and ineligible.

Red man cards look nice signed and Duke Snider had a clean signature.

See, the thing is, I'm just a fan...of the game and of collecting. I'm never selling off my stuff..I've sold maybe 20 items in my entire life out of my collection and those were dups or high priced inserts I pulled and didn't care to have.

I honestly could care less about a card or autograph retaining value. If I'm never selling, the value is irrelevant except to the extent of what it costs to obtain. Ie, the cheaper, the better.

I like them. For my Giants rookie card collection, I place a preference on packed-out autos over non-auto'ed cards. If they're on-card autos, all the better.

I love them. On the few occasions I have purchased modern stuff, I always pick the product that would yield the best shot at autographs. Game-used are worthless to me.

It appears 4 in 5 sportscard collectors are susceptible to peer pressure and/or marketing by major sportscard manufacturers! The other 1 in 5 of us exercise our free will. image

To me there are only 4 types of trading cards:

    1) autographed cards
    2) unsigned cards that are waiting to be autographed eventually
    3) forged autographed cards
    4) unsigned cards that are destined to become forged autographed cards
