Need VCP help on '69 Anderson A's Reggie Jackson

Hey guys,

I just pulled an 8 on a 1969 Anderson A's Reggie Jackson. Can someone please let me know what VCP has for sales on this card? I'm probably going to keep this card in my collection rather than sell it, but I'd just like to gauge its value.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Todd

I just found this on an eBay auction:

1969 ANDERSON JACK IN THE BOX
    JOE DIMAGGIO & REGGIE JACKSON

This lot of two includes Near Mint to Mint examples of Reggie Jackson (Rookie Card) and Joe DiMaggio (coach) for the Oakland Athletics’s A’s. Depending upon who you talk to, these were either issued by Boston Photographer Mike Andersen and/or Jack in the Box restaurants. This issue is very scarce today and highly prized.

So I guess they are the same card.

Not Jack in the Box, they are sometimes called that because they look similar to the real Jack in the Box issues of that Era

its really a collectors issue, a fantasy issue sold within the hobby by Mike Anderson the photographer
the complete set used to be seen often for $20 or so years ago, and now sometimes can be had for under $100...
  • Thanks for the info, guys.

  • Any chance you could post a scan? I've never heard of this issue and would like to see what it looks like.

i thought the only "real" Jack in the Box distributed in '69 were California Angels cards. please correct me if i'm missing something. i was able to reference prior history on the Reggie because of the similarity in appearance of the card.
  • Shooty, I posted a scan of that card on this thread:

As per the OP: The SCD Standard Catalog calls this set "1969 Oakland A's (Andersen)" and says that they are sometimes misidentified as "Jack in the Box" cards. It looks like the cards were only distributed in the hobby and not by Jack in the Box. Looking at the PSA pop report, it seems that PSA did grade some of these as "Jack in the Box" and are now grading them as "Andersen".

True, I should have said "issue"..... (per SCD) the only real Jack in the Box issue is the 1969 Angels (vertical cards).
The 1971 Angles (horizontal) are a collector issue even though they have a Jack in the Box logo on front, the 1970 Pitt Pirates and these A's cards are also 'collector issues'

to some a 'collector issue' is not a "true baseball card", because it was not issued FREE with a product or service of some type (per the ACC's definition of a baseball/collector card)... Collector issues are usually 1st sold as a complete set within the hobby at shops or shows or by mail ie TCMA and will suffer long term when compared to a true baseball card from same Era.
