PSA quality not consistent with some large Ebay sellers

This thread may get blown up, but thats OK. Perhaps I'm too much of a skeptic, but I think its time to start talking about the REAL issue in collecting modern graded cards today, which has nothing to do with shilling on Ebay. Why is it that some large Ebay sellers are able to consistently get PSA 10 grades on cards that are often PSA 8 quality? I'll name names....its relevant to the conversation. I've received cards from 4SC in the past with noticeable corner issues. Cards that I wouldn't have even bothered to submit. That shouldn't happen in a PSA 10 holder and its happened more than once with 4SC. Are these just the 1 in 1,000 example of the grader missing something or is something else going on? Have others had issues with cards of questionable quality from this seller or other large submitters?

This topic and seller have been discussed before I believe, but I have no experience with this seller.

I was under the impression that those who grade the cards had no idea what card belonged to whom during grading.

Does only one grader look at each card....I thought it was 3 graders?

I'm still trying to figure out who had that sub with the run of all 10's from the 60s, 70s, and 80s that was posted on here for a brief amount of time last night? Everytime it even gets mentioned the thread gets deleted. I'm sure this one will as well....lol
  • bought an 86 fleer isiah thomas psa 10 from 4sc, card was banged up. i really do not see any reason to buy anything over a psa 8 given the inconsistencies in grading.

This is the topic that my friends in the hobby talk about via email and on phone etc., but not sure why it rarely gets discussed here. Let's have an open discussion about it. Do people feel that the results they get from their personal subs are in-line with those of the power sellers on Ebay, or do people suspect that large Ebay sellers are getting advantageous grading results to encourage repeated use of a specific grading company (any grading company) ?

Nope. I would bet my life that big submitters get preferential grades. It's just a fact of life that money talks.

A lot of people have the opinion that the super large sellers get the benefit of the doubt on their grades. However, I don't think there is any proof of wrongdoing.

If a lot of people are starting to believe this, then it doesn't matter if its true or not, the perception is becoming reality.

It's probably more a law of averages than any favortism toward a specific submitter.

If I submit 20,000 cards that 3-6 of my employees review before I submit and you submit 200 cards that only you review, the dealer submitting 20,000 cards will probably receive more 10s than you (as a percentage). They will also probably receive more overgraded 10s than you.

Unless, of course, there's a PSA grader on the grassy knoll...
