FUN CBH's. The Dick Graham collection

lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,893 ✭✭✭✭✭
I couldn't make the show. But I was lucky to be able to buy these two. The 1830 large letters is an R5+.

FWIW, the rest of Dick's coins are pretty special. Very clean surfaces, great strikes. Lovely eye appeal. You can see them here, if interested.

Sheridan Downey said he brought 48 of Dick's halves to the show and 40 sold in the first hour. When more than one collector in the crowd at his table wanted the same coin it was decided by a coin toss. LOL.
Lance.

    Nice pick-ups Lance
That 30 LL sure is PQ for a 45 and a nice addition to the set.
And that 1818/7 ain't too shabby either.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

Gorgeous. Love the 1818/7. Killer look and of course an R5 coin is no joke, especially problem free.

Good photography on those too Lance.

Aw com on, we all know that Lance's pictures always make the coins look better than real life. image

I especially like the look of the 1818/7. There were many of Dick Graham's coins that I wanted, but not enough money in my pocket.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

I wasn't at the show but I was represented and managed to snag the 24/var in what I heard was a coin flip. I have also seen Dick's entire collection and it is or was fabulous. I wish I could have bought more, but I was closed out on a few others.

The 24/var was a great choice. Nice luster, surfaces, good strike. Pretty. It was #4 on my short list.

Yeah, I mentioned the coin flip in the OP. It must have been quite a spectacle.

    Here's your coin.

Thanks for the pic Lance. This collection was really special. Just look at the 1830 LL...as a 45 it is wonderful. I also wanted the 27 O-146 and the 08 and 09. But the gem of that collection to me was the 1807 Large Stars. I assume it sold to someone in the club.

at FUN and ANA shows, I would ask to see if Dick purchased anything. Invariably, he would show me a spectacular-looking half dollar. He would tell me about the die marriage, but I don't know enough about those. I would just be struck how he had such an eye for quality coins. Great eye appeal on every coin he ever showed me.

It was quite entertaining to watch Sheridan's Showdown for the right to purchase coins.
