Question about 86 Fleer Basketball Stickers.

Many if not most of these stickers have wax on the back. Does PSA take that into account when grading them or will they give them a ST qualifier anyway?

Thank you in advance.

Many years ago, I picked up a small lot of very nicely centered and minty fresh 86 Fleer stickers. They obviously all had pretty significant wax stains. I tried using a dryer sheet to rub them off and I thought they looked great.

I ended up subbing 10 of them and got back three 9s with NQ. I think 2-3 still got the ST

I've used an old pair of nylons with great success to remove wax from the 86 Fleer stickers and other cards. Grading those cards has resulted in no ST qualifiers. The wax actually does not really adhere well to the stickers; it comes off quite easily.

Crack them out, rub off the wax with nylons and resubmit.

Keep in mind that many are miscut (the Abdul-Jabbar is notorious for being short) although not as bad as the '87 issue. Wax will be treated as an ST qualifier, but is easily removed. Just be aware that it is not uncommon for the reverse to exhibit roller marks or crimps as the backs are exposed to the rollers during sealing.

I just bought a BGS 6.5. All subs were 8's and 8.5's except for the surface. I assumed that it was wax. It was. I cracked it out and got the wax off with panty hose. Looks great now.
