Making music with your coins?

Hopefully they took the time to not destroy something rare.

Interesting concept, but still not sure how I feel about it.

  • New strings are not expensive , even for the best , but i still wouldn't use one of those. Ive seen ones made from stone too. Ill stick to the tried and tested .

Brain May (guitarist from Queen) prefers to use coins for quitar picks.
  • Its said he uses a British silver sixpence , i don't know if it's a marketing ploy but i do know specially minted sixpences are sold at his shows with him on it.

As long as there are no sharp corners or edges, they shouldn't damage the strings anymore than a plastic pick.

  • It's not just the strings to be concerned about , the actual body of the guitar is going to pick up more damage using metal , bone or stone. It's personal preference for sure , i avoid damage to an instrument if i suspect it likely. The whole thing with Brian Mays isnt about prefering metal , he uses the sixpence to get a particular sound using the milled edge. It doesn't follow he uses it for every performance.

    HI JIMMY MURRAY!

Yes, I always associated that special singing sound of his, the Queen Guitar Solo Sound, with his sixpence. I too worried about the fretboard etc with metal, bone (makes good nuts tho) or stone.
