Auction Lot Image Tip

As many have surmised, most coin images produced by various (most) auction houses are abysmal at best.
However, if you are unable to view the coins for yourself, or have a trusted bidder's agent review and advise on the integrity of the slab grade(s), then by all means utilize the PCGS cert verification.
There may be a TrueView™ image of the coin associated with the cert number, and I have yet to come across "Secure" holdered coin which does not have a TrueView, as well as the 'sniffer' image which actually puts me in mind of a dark field image (advantageous if looking at potential frost breaks).
At least you will see excellent consistency in the PCGS imaging as opposed to an auction house which usually has multiple people pushing thousands and thousands of coins through an assembly line style system which can have many shortcomings.

<< <i>Does NGC have the same thing? Thanks for the PCGS site.

IMHO, from what I've seen, their imaging is not even on par with the worst coin imagers on this side of the aisle.
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

Monumental!
Below is the PCGS image for the only coin I won from the Kairos collection. I entered an
early "token" bid and was surprised to win it. It was one of the minority of coins in the
collection that wasn't a top pop, but I quite liked the color!
EDIT: spelling
Very nice eye appeal on that shilling.....................perfect fall colors.
Paul, I hope that you excuse me for borrowing your image and reposting it here, because I can't get enough of this beautiful gem.
Edited to add: CJ, what a wonderful shilling! Do you mind sharing its grade with us?

Thanks, glad you find it attractive. It's graded MS65+. There are some minor abrasions on
the cheek that are more evident at certain angles and the luster is muted in the central
reverse; both factors probably limited the grade. The luster elsewhere is fabulous! I was
in NYC to view the lots, and I thought it held its own in the eye appeal dept with the rest
of the minor Victorian silvers in the Kairos collection. Nice to own both a souvenir of my trip
and a coin from such a fabulous collection.
