Is Bud Selig Worthy Of The HOF

If players are not going to be allowed in the HOF for using PED's then there is no way Bud Selig should ever be allowed in either. He allowed the problem to continue FAR longer than it should have.

What does everyone else think?

Perhaps the better question is, "is the HOF worthy of Bud Selig?"

    Not a chance.
  • Just a little personal note. Was not a big fan of his professionally, but he was in attendance at my brother's wedding. My son was 9 yrs old at the time and having a horrible time. Bud was leaving and I told my son, "let's go meet Mr. Selig."

I stopped him in the hallway and introduced myself as the best man. I told him my son really wanted to meet him. Well, it was after midnight, and he was with his wife. To my surprise, he got down on his knees and made conversation about little league with my son. He asked him personal questions about what position he played, what team he was on, etc. etc. etc.

For this, I will always have a special place in my heart for him

This is a trick question right? Or at the very least multiple choice?

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • I dont think he's worthy. He choose to ignore the problem when him along with managers knew they were using but failed to recognize and punish those found using. Im sure everyone knew guys like Mcgwire and Sosa were using. I know if something like that was going around my work office (maybe not someone using ped's but maybe other drugs or working on the job and smelling like alcohol everyday after coming back from lunch) we all tend to find out who it is really quick, even if we dont personally know that individual on a 1 to 1 level). Playing and using wasnt such a huge deal back then and players like Canseco were even accused of it back in 1989. Rumors were swirling but maybe baseball didnt know how to handle it back then because it was becoming a new thing crossing into the limelight.

Do I want him to get in? No.
Will he get in? Eventually, yes.

Selig has been in charge of MLB during it's dark period, and the All Star game tie embarrasment. He also was in charge when MLB lost a World Series due to a work stoppage.

However, he was also in charge when MLB became the most popular sport. In addition, he grew the sport at the time when cable exploded, with expansion, and netting owners a lot of money. Expanding the baseball playoffs was a great idea, along with realignment and inter-league play.

He has serious warts, but in due time he will be elected.

Marvin Miller should be in ahead of pretty much anybody other than players, Bud Selig included.

Yeah, just what the Hall needs, another old man who never played the game at the highest level. The Hall should be about the players and their accomplishments, not some do nothing bureaucrat.
