MFH and JMW are very knowledeable in the series. Feel free to PM them with questions. You can also post your questions in the MegaThread - I usually get answers from someone pretty quickly.
Not sure if he still checks in or not, but BoyHowdie was a B-dime specialist, and had a ton of experience with the series.
Barber dimes are a collecting favorite with me.I've been collecting them since the seventies. I will try to answer any questions you might have about them.
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
Dimeman and MFH come to mind. I have a 100% complete Registry set in this series, but I do not have the years of experience assembling sets in different grades like some others do.
Ask your questions here. Those with answers will undoubtedly reply.
I always thought that a choice VF-XF Barber dime set would be cool. Never got too far with it though. But in my mind such a set has essentially zero downside as the supply of such coins in problem free condition is quite limited. Nearly all seemed to be cleaned or hacked up. A set of uncs on the other hand could go either way. I used to buy key date choice/gem unc Barbers in the 1970's to 1980's and found them quite challenging. My favorite "bang for the buck" dates tended to fall into the 1898-1909 range. 98-0 and 09-s in nice unc were two of my favorites.
The two expert Barber dime guys are MFH and DIMEMAN.
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.
JMW and his family are away on vacation till the end of the month.
I am at FUN - and check my messages here every night ( it's 3AM now ) so, feel free to ask any questions. Ron Hedden and Jon Potts ( Dimeman ) are also great resources.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
