Advice on 1975 George Brett RC

Sometimes you just look & try to evaluate a card too long! I find it best to step away, take a break. But on this card, even after a break I am having a hard time deciding if it meets my goals or standard. I think because they don't come by all that often, that might be influencing me some. My only problem with this card is the L/R centering, so let me throw it out to you all, see what you think. If I am to make an offer, I am thinking a fair price would be about 90% of VCP?

There are many more white whales in the sea... wait for the next one to come along.
  • Thank you everybody, you all kind of validated what I was thinking. Patience may be the virtue in this case. Even though it's hard to find a nicely centered one, I will wait.
  • You've made the correct choice imo.

i wanted a well centered 8 for my collection. well, as well centered as an 8 can get anyway image

    finally landed one ...

<< <i>If you're having a hard time deciding ... enough so that you actually post a thread about it ... then IMO you definitely should not get it.

All this questioning you're doing is a good thing ... you know something is off ... so go with your gut on this one and wait for something better. >>

That Brett 8 is a great buy and value. If you paid 8-money for that you did fantastically. In a wall display that card beats a low end 9 all day. What a great 8, congrats.

If it bugs you now, it will definitely bug you every time you look at it.

    Eric,

That Brett is dead centered all around! Nice pickup!

  • Thanks fellas. it took me a while to find it. ive had it for some time now, cant remember what i paid for it (that may not be a "bad" thing lol), but it was not bad at all.

Agreed Eric's 8 looks great and I'd pass on the 9 until something that suits your liking. As someone referred, if you're questioning it now, you may never be satisfied with the purchase.

    Thanks,

  • Yes, you are all right, I will pass. Another thought is that in my HOF RC collection, I have a couple of 8's that I will upgrade some day to 8.5 or 9. But when you start with a 9 that you not 100% happy with, it's tough to upgrade to a 10. (more like impossible for me)

Eric, that is a great looking Brett and I would much rather have a nice 8 like yours than that 9 I'm looking at. I do have my heart set on a 9 for the Brett though. He is from my area where I grew up & I once played golf with him here in Vegas at the old Tropicanna GC. We were a twosome & the starter said we had to join up with this single! Well, if we have to (lol), little did we know it was George Brett.

Thats a great story! thanks for sharing with us.

as for 9's, i hear you. we all have different comfort levels. Keep on hunting. As has been mentioned by others here, if you dont like looking at it right away, that will not change in the future. Centering is pretty much the first thing that i see when i look at a card. i TRY to be as picky as possible when it comes to my cards and centering. i will admit that i am sometimes weak and "give in" on cards that could have better centering (That Registry is a STRONG drug! • i have a psa 6 that i bought in '96 and sub'd myself. centering and corners/edges are razor sharp. only problem is there is some flaking along bottom edge - its a beautiful card otherwise. i also have a razor sharp corners/edges 9 OC, and at worst its 70/30 r/l. owning these 2 is enough for me until i find the perfect 8 or 9...
good pass i think - nothing spoils a 9 like lax centering standards.

edit: link to my psa 6

  • Eric, I have been looking at 8's for a few months now and yours is EXACTLY how I want mine to look like. Great pick up.

I'm an OPC guy, myself - and I love my Brett rookie. But if I had to complain - I wish it had a little bit better L/R centering. Sorry my scan is a little c#ckeyed.
