What is vntage?

I know this has been discussed before. However, I am more interested in knowing the reasoning behind other's thinking of what is considered vintage. For example, I consider vintage to be pre-1970 because that was the first year that I collected. Anything from 1969 or earlier seemed very old, prior to going to card shows in the early 80's.

Good play on words and spelling!
I classify my cards as: 19th century, Pre-War, Post-War and modern. I guess you're wondering where I draw the line between post-war and modern.. Personally, I pin 1974 as the last post war set. 1975 Topps was the first to use one series and sets the stage for the over produced 1980's junk sets.

<< <i>Personally, I think "vintage" is an inappropriate word to use with any collectible - it's too subjective.

Isn't modern an antonym for vintage?
Edited to add: Wouldn't the start date for modern be the end date for vintage?

LOL! I see what you did there.
"Vintage" is such an overused word. It shouldn't be used in hobby talks IMO.
Personally, I don't deal with anything past 1975, so I don't really care what you want to call it

<< <i>From what I can tell, at least the SMR is that anything 1973 and before is Vintage. And I note the distinction in the grading where they list a PSA 9 as the highest grade up to 1973. Where from 1974 on, PSA 10 becomes the highest listed grade. To me that suggests that PSA 10's become more common in 1974 on. >>
Also, 1973 is the last year when cards were produced in series until recently.

+1
For cards, I always consider anything pre-1975 to be vintage.

So vintage cards are cards with a Wine theme?
Cars are 25 years aren't they, to be called classics?
should be definitive in the hobby....
