  • Well, I just pulled a Canseco and of course, it had a dinged corner (2nd card from top) when every other card in that same pack looked great so ill just accept is as my luck as usual.

Im about 1 3rd of the way into this. Ive pulled out many stars so far so now just looking out for any possible 10's. Pictures coming soon...

It is really mind blowing that in 1986 this box sat next to a basketball box and the packs were close to the same price then and now the basketball is over 700 times more expensive.

  • Ok, here are the results. I pulled out most of the star cards from the set. Doubles were extremely scarce - I'm not exaggerating ether. Just look at the stars I pulled - no doubles! While opening the packs I noticed I got a Ron Darling double towards the end but I cannot recall anymore and I have a pretty good memory seeing how I was opening pack after pack. I actually thought that was a very good thing. The Canseco that I had pulled had a dinged corner and didnt have perfect centering so a 9 would of been the best I could have gotten with that one so the corner doesn't really bother me. Now if it was centered, then yes. I didn't get a Cecil rookie but I'm happy I pulled my Canseco instead.

Centering wasn't too kind with this box but sharp cards overall with very nice corners. I did pull out 2 possible 10's worth sending in. A Nolan Ryan (which was in my last pack along with a Gooden All-Star card. There has to be Gooden fans out there that may want this in a 10 *Cough Eric *Cough lol

I forgot about that Mickey Hatcher 'big glove' card.

Marc - Looks like you definitely got your money's worth out of that box. Very nice.

    +1

Nice rip Foo, it always makes a box more enjoyable when you don't get dozen of dupes. I always liked this set, it's a simple design but catches the eye. I think it gets overlooked (the base set anyway) because most of the great RC's are in the Update set. I think 86 Donruss, Fleer and Topps base sets would be much more collected if Bonds, Bo, Will Clark, etc. were in them. Alas, they arent!

Keep postin' these mid-80s rips image

    Currently collecting PSA graded:

    1991 & 1992 Fleer Pro Visions
    1952 Topps

Thanks for sharing. I have always liked the 1986 Fleer card design. I remember really wanting a 1986 Fleer Update of Will Clark, but they were out of my price range at the time at about $40.

Always liked those Fleer All Star Team inserts. Very attractive with the red and blue design. The Mattingly and Brett cards were good for $5-7 apiece in the day. (I think Ripken was in there too.)
  • This was actually a pretty fun box and cheap to rip. Never got to do this as a kid. Stuff like this was expensive in the early 90's. Especially when you were 12, 13 yrs old with no job.

Agreed, do you have a hot tub? On top of that the basketballs didn't do much price wise for a couple years.
