Backboard shattering - From Wikipedia
Throughout the history of basketball there have always been athletes with the size and strength to slam dunk the ball through the rim. However, the first NBA player to shatter a backboard, Chuck Connors (who would become far more famous as an actor), did not do so with a dunk. When playing for the Boston Celtics in 1946, Connors took a set shot during pregame warmups, hitting the front of the rim. Because an arena worker had failed to place a protective piece between the rim and backboard, the backboard shattered.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Yes, he did shatter a backboard. He led the Rochester team to the national championship before joining the Boston Celtics in 1946. 1946 was
the 1st year of the Celtics team. He left the Celtics to play with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He only hit two home runs in his MLB career.
His hit show Gunsmoke rose to #4. It was shown in Russia, and it was the Russian presidents favorite show. He wanted Connors to come to Russia, but we wouldn't allow it.

I think Gunsmoke and the Rifleman were the last two "western" tv series we had before the family type series hit in the early to mid-70's.
We got Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Good Times, Eight Is Enough. So the westerns got scrapped in the 70's, along with the sci-fi like Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie,
Lost In Space, Twilight Zone.
Then the 80's came and I don't know what we got in that era. I was into other things by then.
