1977 Star Wars #125 Luke in Disguise PSA 9...

$9,999??????

Is there something really special about this card? I checked the pop report and it is a Pop 12 with 2 PSA 10's.

Seems like a really high price for this card. Maybe a typo when they listed it?? Not even a best offer option.

Definitely seems like more of a $99.99 card.

Probably intended to be listed at $9.99 or $99.99 and someone missed the decimal during data entry and didn't catch it before approving the launch... The card typically sells for about $15.00 in that grade.
  • Is there are Star Wars card that is more desirable than another, grade not-withstanding?

I am by no means an expert but the #1 Luke Skywalker card is a good one.

If you check completed sales I saw the Darth Vadar PSA 10 sticker sell for $1,500.

Looks like C3P0 is rather excited that he's so brassy... Wonder how long the graphic artist that altered the image stayed employed?

thenavarro has a pretty funny storry about trying to get Anthony Daniels to sign that C-3P0 card.

PSA won't slab the card? Seriously? It's an effed up world we live in, my friends, when a fictitious robot dong is more offensive than a swaztika.

4SC also has the same card in PSA 8 for $5.99. I think a 1,600x premium for PSA 9 over PSA 8 is about right, yes...?

    PSA 8 on EBAY

If there are really only a few of these in PSA holders this is a really cool card. This is the funniest error card I have ever seen.

Any Star Wars collectors out there please comment and share any pricing history on this card.

Now that truly is "buying the slab and not the card."

I found my Star Wars cards last year when cleaning out my Dad's garage that I collected as a kid. I just dragged them out and checked and I have THE C-3PO card! Don't remember ever noticing it as a kid.

Sadly, I didn't keep very good care of card back then. They were in a picture album though.

great find for an older card that you were unsure that you had. it is funny that you had never noticed the "error" before as well. ha ha

No, this card is the Red Series which is series 2. C3PO in his excited state is found in the Green series which is series 4.

This Wonder Bread PSA 10 should also be one for the watchlist. Those Star Wars Wonder Bread cards really bring back the memories!

CW I added that to my watch list.

A few months back there were some Star Trek PSA 10's that sold in an auction house for close to $7k if I recall. I am thinking this error card is going to end up on some investors buy lists so the standard Star Wars collectors will have to dig deep. Perhaps north of 5k isn't out of the question.

    Should be fun to watch.

The pop info isn't entirely accurate because they weren't grading them for so long. I think I'd be surprised if it went higher than $3k.

A friend of mine had one and sold it to the person who posted the pic earlier in the thread. I believe at the time there were only like 13 graded.

It seems the flood gates were opened with quite a few on EBAY.

If two I have to own it snipes are placed I think it will go nuts. I just looked and there are 76 watchers. That is a strong number.

  • I am also interested in seeing where the PSA 10 C-3PO error card ends. Thanks for bringing this auction to our attention Dpeck.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
    103 watchers.

    Current price is $2,622

I won't be staying up to watch but will be checking first thing in the morning. Such a unique card. I love it.

Weren't the American releases all by Kenner? If so, that probably explains the much higher pricing. I don't recall ever seeing Palitoy here in the US.

Probably. I am not really that familiar with the figures. I just like seeing stories about collectables getting interest.

I have recently jumped into the Star Wars collectable fray, and for the past three months have been trying to win a 12 back Stormtrooper on E-bay at auction to no avail. It's good to see the figures going for healthy prices, but when you are trying to "break in" the hobby it is frustrating.

Here is a little background on the history of Palitoy..........

Palitoy effectively ceased to be an independent business in 1984 when its parent company, CPG, part of General Mills, closed its entire design department leaving it effectively just a sales and marketing operation.[1] 1 May 1985 also saw the end of most manufacturing at Palitoy with 327 staff in manufacturing and distribution out of 585 made redundant and manufacturing shifted overseas.[2]

The restructure was undertaken in advance of the spin-off of General Mills' toy division CPG, separated from its parent in 1985 as Kenner Parker Toys, Inc. There were many potential acquirers of the business but the subsidiary was floated on the stock exchange with General Mills' shareholders getting equivalent shares in Kenner Parker. This was more tax efficient for General Mills.[3]

Once independent, Kenner Parker's strategy was to withdraw from the modelling market. As a consequence, Palitoy sold Airfix to Humbrol in 1986[4] and ceased its Mainline railways business.

In 1987 Tonka purchased Kenner Parker including Palitoy for $555 million, borrowing extensively to fund the acquisition. However, the cost of servicing the debt meant Tonka itself had to find a buyer and it was eventually acquired by Hasbro in 1991.[5]

Hasbro closed the former Palitoy site in 1994 with production of the last product made there, Play-Doh, being transferred to Hasbro's Irish factory.[6] The 10-acre site was put on the market in July 1996 for a price of £1.25m with outline planning permission for housing.[7]
