Wrestling Fans - is this legit?

Just starting to look into wrestling sets re-living the childhood again and remebering Hogan live for my first time beat down the Million Dollar Man and Virgil.

Was the 1982 Wrestling stars set issued in a complete set as pictured. Any thoughts on legitimacy of this and would PSA slab this pack as pictured? Having trouble finding how this set was originally distributed.

thanks!

The Wrestling All Stars sets came in a factory sealed cellophane wrapped pack like the one pictured.

It is real but I would caution that the Andre The Giant card on top of this one would grade very low. Looks like a PSA 5 to me with the heavily damaged corners.

The sets were advertised in The Wrestling News, The Wrestling Review and programs that were published by Pro Wrestling Enterprises.

If you do a search by wrestling you will find a ton of information in many other threads.

I am not sure if PSA would grade a pack of these but if they would this would not be the one to send in with the tears in the packaging. That from an authentic standpoint is actually a good thing but the way they grade packs it would hurt the grade.

  • Thanks Dpeck I just finished reading your PSA article and learned a lot about this set.

Ever seen any of these unopened series A sets come up for sale? I'm a unopened pack guy and love the idea of getting one of these.

I have purchased a number of unopened sets from the series but only one of the 1982A.

It has been a while since one was auctioned off but I am sure there are a few more out there. Get ready to pay a steep price for a sealed clean 82A set.

I was at work when I wrote the first response. Here is a littler more quick information.

They used photos from the magazines. Here is the original Andre photo.

Here is the Hulk Hogan photo.

Here is the order form for the 82A.

Here is an order form for the 83 set and they state they still have unsold 82B sets.

Here is the Hogan photo once more and the sister magazine that you could order cards from.

Here is a program that features both the Hulk and Andre photos and an example of one of their programs. This is from 1980 so just an example of what a program looked like that featured the advertisements after 1982.

Here is the Ric Flair photo used.
