Please post 1 item (card, auto, memo, etc) that is your favorite pickup of 2012. Please also post why its your favorite. Doesn't have to be the best player or most expensive, just the 1 item that made you the most happy to get. Scans preferred when possible.
My favorite is 2004 Playoff Honors Chris Cooley RC. Its an $8 card that I had been looking for since 2005. First one I have even seen. Completed my Cooley basic RC set.

The Babe's were not easy to find and I definately needed them to finish my set. I'm a football guy so the Unitas is the first of the big 3 from my uncompleted(about 68%) 57' set.

I subbed it myself... and I've been searching for a gradable copy of this card for 3 years prior. I probably subbed somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 different copies of the card over the years only to always get the dreaded MIN SIZE REQ. In 2001, Pujols & Ben Sheets were late additions to the Donruss set and were inserted as redemptions. Most, albeit I suspect all, redeemed were cut shorter (top-to-bottom) than the standard card size. Some are just a hair shorter and some are closer to a full 1/16th of an inch shorter. Combined with the black & red bordering, it's darn near improbable to find a high grade copy that will find a home in a PSA holder. I literally jumped out of my chair with joy when I saw the sub results. For me personally, this one is going to be hard to beat for probably years to come (I literally can only think of 2 more cards on my wish-to-own list that would give me greater joy).

My opinion. If it has any chance of getting a 7.5 or lower, then just keep it raw.
I have some raw old beauties that I just enjoy touching and smelling. I would keep that Aaron right with them.
<< <i>That Hank Aaron card is absolutely amazing.

I agree.I have a 55 Aaron in raw form that i enjoy looking at. I'm not so sure about the smelling part..................hehe
<< <i>i remember my anxiety level reached an all-time high as i awaited the postman on the day this arrived.....still yet to be graded, i simply enjoy looking at the raw beauty of this card, but it will likely go in with my renewal voucher sometime this year.
I don't suppose you bought that from some guy who lived down the block from you when you were 9 years old? Just curious.
Caribou, I have no interest whatsoever in hockey, and I love that Bobby Orr anyway. What a great card!

I did pick up both of his rookies so it was hard to chose, but I liked the color on this one so much more (I also know it's not his true rookie)
And in true breaking the rules style, I scored this in one of our group rips this year:
It was a good year. I'm currently saving my money for the National in Chicago. It will be the first one I have ever attended.

That was already done, and I'm still waiting for a dozen Wrestling All Star cards to also break the rules

This I found in the basement while hanging insulation about a month ago. It was in a mice nest area.
edit to add: PDUB1819 the Musial is amazing, beautiful color.
<< <i>Great cards, guys. I want to hear the Dwight Gooden story. >>
Gooden was at a Steiner Private Event at last years National in Baltimore. For about the last three years ive kept a 1985 Topps #620 Dwight Gooden card in my wallet that i personally pulled out of a pack back in 1985. It's my favorite card of all time, and the card that got me to where i am today as a collector. I told Dwight my story and he was very nice and politely agreed to sign my card. He even personalized it "To Eric, Best Wishes" Man i couldnt believe it, i really couldnt. i was like a flustered kid again, having just spoken with my childhood idol.
WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle
The card is beat up, but it contains a very nice old time signature.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
I just happened to bring a Ric Flair card at the last moment and was able to get this signed.
I said Ric this is not your most valuable card but your most rare. He just sort of nodded and signed it.
We met Hogan that night and shook his hand and I got Sting to sign a few cards too. It was an amazing night to get to meet all three of them in a backstage setting. It was surreal.
My fave of '12.....
My fav has to be this one.
I wanted to share this poster:
I would love to continue the march to 100+. The names in red are my wantlist. As long as they are or become HOFers and were in MLB prior to this reunion, they fit the theme.
1. A Dutch Clark (NFL HOFer) signed rookie card. It is only the second signed 1935 National Chicle that I've seen from the set and the first one in my collection
rd below:
2. A Leo Nomellini (NFL HOFer) signed rookie card. He was a great signer until his death in 2000, however his rookie card is a short print in the 1948 Leaf set and his signed rookie card is nearly impossible to find:
3. A signed cut auto'd card of Earle "Greasy" Neale - NFL HOFer.
I won't bore you with any more scans...
