Jim Thorpe Rookie?
Does anyone know anything about Jim Thorpe 1916 M101-5 Sporting News card? Looks like this is his his first card but i'm not so sure its going to be attainable. Anyone know what these have sold for? I have a feeling its well beyond my budget and will prob end up using his 1933 Sport Kings card. If anyone has any other suggestions i'd love to hear them.
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

<< <i>He has other cards before the SK but you're going to have to hunt real hard and cross your fingers. You could always use a nice PC, but those aren't cheap either. >>
Hunting down hard to find cards is the best part... But I don't want wast time searching for something that costs 5gs when I find it. 500-1000 is really the top of what I could spend. The post card is a nice option... Ill keep searching but I think I'm still leaning towards the sports kings card.
Have you thought about checking out foreign issues? There's still a TON of foreign issues that are pretty much unknown to the American collecting community and you can find some great tough cards of American athletes in them for cheap.

Yeah, eagles, ever thought about checking out foreign issues? Just kidding. You are like the king of finding foreign issues. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
<< <i>Stumbling across a foreign card pre sports kings would be ideal.. I just wasn't aware of any but will start searching. Do you know of any in particular? >>
No. But I'm at the point now where I'd be shocked if there wasn't one. There's simply too much that hasn't been catalogued yet for there not to be, imo. I'd at least say the odds are good. I'd guess Germany or France.
<< <i>Much cheaper, and earlier issued postcard. I used to own this one but sold it last year for $400

And a beer and hotdog for you and your boy at the baseball game Dave.

Ive always loved the pose of this M101 as well, one of my favorite Thorpe cards.
