Got fooled again - modern retail packs

Was over at local Target today and bought up remainder of bowman platinum and topps chrome boxes (12 packs each) and an almost full topps platinum football (all 2012) - thought the days of being able to cherry pick the packs was behind us or maybe my luck is just bad because I didn't pull any autos or relics. Did get some good player base cards.

I also picked up a 7 pack topps fb platinum blaster box and the rookie relic was russel Wilson jersey card so prob broke even on that box.

Lesson leaned... Again.

  • I learned me lesson in 2007 on Bowman Chrome baseball......$400 in retail boxes and one autograph. That's also when I learned about retail pack searching. That year the packs were see thru.

I've seen someone get fooled by this. One guy sold a bunch of re-sealed chrome two cell packs (the same that you can buy from target) to a dealer at a show. That same dealer resold them and the guy they were resold to ripped them, came back, and wanted his money back. The cards were football cards in baseball packaging.

Sad to see this going on...

I haven't bought loose retail packs for years now. I've seen way too many 300 lb guys wearing a filthy undersized t-shirt and sweatpants running their fingernails along the edges of every pack. Okay, I've seen it twice, but I'm sure those two loads of crap do that at every Walmart and Target in my area.

Whenever I do feel the need to waste some money on retail packs, it's gonna be a blaster box

You must live in Philadelphia, because those are the same exact guys I see! Obese, B.O., greasy hair under a baseball cap, sweatpants with their underwear hanging out.

When I feel the need to buy cards at Target, I never buy packs, only boxes. But the odds still suck. I did pull a Bryce Harper redemption auto out of a Chrome box a few weeks back!

  • I have bought those blister packs at target or those booster boxes (booster?). I dont usually get the loose packs. Usually the boxes at least come with something unique that you cant get out of a hobby box. But I dont think I ever got an autograph card from a box at target. A refractor or common insert is about the most I will get. But I get them when I feel like ripping packs.
  • The next time you are in a store looking to buy some packs think twice about it. The packs that you buy may have been searched or tampered with in some way. Buy a sealed box instead; your odds of getting undamaged cards are much better that way.

I paid over $70 (i think, cant remember) on a box of Bowman Platinum last year. I got 1 auto of a no name minor league guy and nothing else to rave about. Basically lost my money, and I didnt even think the cards were that great. Havnt bought retail packs since.
