Yes, but the progress is really slow. I hope to get them by the end of the year but that may be a bit ambitious as very few come up. This Chief Big Heart card has his foot on Gorgeous George. That is an interesting tidbit to this card. I'm telling you, when I complete this set I do not see another guy passing me unless there is a huge discovery of near mint material. These are a bear to find in good shape.

I am stalled out on improving this set at the moment. Just goes to show you how tough it is to make progress with this difficult set. I will get it but it may not be in time for the badges for 2014. I really was hoping to have more progress in six months but I do not have one card to help me here.

No Dick the Bruiser but the Crusher was in the 1955 Parkhurst wrestling set. Thanks for the reminder Stone. I do agree that part of collecting is the chase, I'm just ready to chase something else. The problem is that I am chasing too many things at the moment. I'd like to have a little more focus!

Progress has been slow on this set but I got a couple upgrades, got seven more graded that I needed for the master set, and only a few that definitely needed to be replaced. I got a couple of threes but it looks like I have enough to earn a PSA registry badge in a month. I have four of the five LP backs but hoping to have them in higher grade before they visit Newport Beach. Right now I need in PSA slabbed 4 or better are the names below......I could have these in 2s or 3s with the exception of the one that I do not own yet.
2 Sky Hi Lee 7 Frank Valois 42 George Bollas 43 Ray Villmer 54 Hans Hermann

I've upgraded a few cards in the set but am currently stalled out on having any of these five in LP backs worth grading. I don't have one of these cards at all actually. I am happy though that I have found a few upgrades in the last month. I have to take what I can get!

Mega set was posted on the set registry with the 75 biography backs from 1954 set, the 62 Lucky Premium backs from 1954 and then the 121 card 1955 set in all one mega set. It is very unusual to have such a large wrestling set (258 cards) in the vintage era.

anyone needing cards left to this set. found a whole box of ungraded the other day...pretty sure no gems in there, prolly 3-5's. haven't really gone through them just yet.
People have no idea but a 5 is a really nice card for these. I think the production was done with a cement mixer of some type. Years ago I think I sold you some graded ones begsu.
Sumo, I have no idea why one Parkhurst set is in sports while the other is in the non-sports category. Pretty clear there is lack of consistency with that.

What do you know about the gray back cards from this 1954 Parkhurst set compared to the more common white back versions? Any recognized variance similar to 1956 Topps baseball, 1973 OPC hockey, 1981 OPC baseball, etc.?

Bump for gray back question. Dpeck or WCK? >>
I've noticed some variations in the colors but have never tried to checklist the cards that I have to differentiate how common or rare the other colors are. The differences in colors does not excite me all that much as I am more interested in the biography backs versus the lucky premium backs. Interestingly enough although the lucky premium backs are more rare than the biography backs I found there to be very little difference in pricing as there is not the name of the wrestler on the lucky premium cards. Now once slabbed you have a much better chance of attaining a better price as you may have a pop 1 and the PSA label will have the name of the wrestler on the flip. It is always good to have a wrestling question here, and I am always happy to reply.

Whatever the King says on this one. He is the expert here.
I swear the quality control of the cards is so low and I don't imagine the quantity of wrestling cards was very much either. It seems as though most of the cards were cut with a cement mixer. A PSA 6 is an unbelievable card for this set. I think the 1955 set is a bit better condition-wise but still has various issues.

Nothing earth shattering in terms of grades but I did add #2 Sky Hi Lee LP back in PSA 4, as well as Frank Valois and Ray Villmer in PSA 3s while I upgraded my Gorgeous George bio back to PSA 5 (up from the PSA 6 with a qualifier). First additions to this set in over a year. I do have the raw cards from the two I need but I was hoping to add stronger cards. I may just submit them and hope to get higher grades later. Progress is just too slow with this set and it would be nice to have it at 100% complete.

I got poppage today and got the Bollas in a PSA 4 and I just said screw it and had my Hermann graded a PSA 2 so I can say that I am complete finally. I do want to upgrade from a few 3s that reside in my set and of course the PSA 2 that I just got graded. I'm just happy to see 100% after thinking three years ago that this is something that I wanted to do. The "pressure" is off and will just raise the bar from this point forward.

No, it is a basic 75 card set and all of them have biography backs but 62 of the 75 also have the lucky premium back. It seems like an odd way to do a set, but it happened. Technically there could be another lucky premium back out there, but I have never seen it, and it is not very likely. I have went through so many of these cards over the years I am pretty sure this is a complete set now. I have a few different ways to upgrade the set potentially and would love to do so.

I made a deal with CU member Spazzy for his complete graded 1954 Parkhurst wrestling set and came home to the cards in my mailbox. This was a complete 75 card set entirely PSA graded. I was off on an extended vacation for the holidays and did not send the check for payment until yesterday and he should be getting his money today. I just wanted to thank him for sending the cards prior and having his faith in me as a collector. My set now is off the hook considering how tough these are in high grade.
