1941 Inverted S Mintmark Jefferson Nickel

Came across this one in a solid-date roll and am really unsure if it is truly inverted or not. The mintmark position does not match the one in the CPG and it does not have the die scratches proven to be a marker of the variety, but could there be another die? The pictures (attached) look like the mintmark could have taken a hit and been flattened out at the top but in hand and under the microscope it doesn't appear to be the case.

There is a second die that PCGS has been attributing as the Inverted S, even though not the one pictured in Cherry Pickers. I disagree with that decision, but who am I! I have a post that shows pictures of the two. This sample is pretty beat up. Maybe you can see if position matches?

    Good luck.

Could the flattened look have really been caused by a piece of grease in the die and have then occured during the minting process?

Or by a worn or degraded die?

No, as the bottom of the 'S' should be wider then the top.
