1955 World Champion Brooklyn Dodgers!

Te first time I ever saw this piece I fell in love with it, but at $445, I just could not pull the trigger. Since than, I have seen them sell in auctions for between low $200 and $520. I beleive ebay currently has 2 on now with BIN's of $799 & $649. This last weekend, I found one at a local auction at a very reasonable price and would like to share. Made in 1999 by the Danbury Mint Co, it stands at 28" long, 7" high and celebrates the starting lineup of the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. Left to right, Gilliam, Reese, Snider, Campy, Furillo, Hodges, Jackie Robinson, Amoros, Newcombe and Mgr. Alston. Just a beautiful piece, more amazing in person! Hope you all enjoy:

Great find, Mike! I'm a Dodger fan too, born in Brooklyn the year they moved to the Coast and I followed them out there five years later. Grew up in LA, loved the Garvey-Lopes-Russell-Cey teams of the '70s.

Congratulations on the pickup! A few years ago, I picked up the one similar to this one, being the 1970 Orioles. I have it displayed in my office and I get comments on it all the time!

Wow - very cool item Mike!

I'm a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers - that would easily be the centerpiece of my collection.

I would like for us to consider a "Brooklyn" thread so people can share what they have.

Congratulations on a really sweet pickup. Merry Christmas.

  • I am glad to see that many of you enjoyed and thank you for the kind comments.

IMF has one of the 1970 Orioles which was also at that first store I mentioned, along with a Yankee team, but I do not remember which year.

As for me, I grew up in LA and went to my first game in 1959. Dodgers were playing the Cubs at the LA Memorial Coliseum. I got the chance to watch Duke Snider, Gil Hodges, Jim Gilliam, from the Brooklyn team. I remember Ernie Banks that day, but he is the only Cub that I could really remember, being that I was only 7 years old.

In 1961, when Dodger Stadium was under construction, my Dad took me there. I can remember that view like it was yesterday. Looking from down the left field line back to where homeplate was going to be. The entire field was a flat layer of fresh dirt, the structure was all cement. Obviously, at that age, it looked huge and anybody could just walk in, as long as you did not bother anybody.

I would also love to see any type of Brooklyn Dodger or any Dodger thread where we could all share. My room is not near finished yet but I would still be willing to show some pics. Good luck all!

That's awesome! Never new that piece was out there. I may need to pick one of those up for my Campy collection. It would be a nice companion piece to my '55 Schaeffer Beer sign. image

I've seen that piece at Dodger Stadium, but as cool as it is it's way too expensive. Had I seen it at the price you got it for I'd jump all over it. Congrats!

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
