Ripping 1977 Topps BB Wax

Times are tough, pickings are slim. But I have an urge to rip something. So I'll be ripping 15 packs of 1977 Topps BB wax from BBCE. I will post results.

Not the most exciting packs to rip but they were the first packs I ever opened. I still remember my first pack - 1977 cello with Chris Chambliss showing. I was a huge Yankee fan so my dad bought me the pack thinking the whole pack would be Yankees.

Guess I am hoping for a gem mint Ryan, Munson or Brett.

  • Good luck! Hopefully you will have some well centered goodies to show us later.
Looking to buy/trade for any Holman Moody (NASCAR) related items you may have.
  • A clean Yount fetches good money as well. One of my favorite sets. Had a ton as a kid in 1977. Good Luck!

Good luck! 1976 was my first year of opening packs aside from two 1975 packs I got for my birthday. I remember wondering why the design had changed as I figured they would just repeat the same design every year. I remember seeing a 1977 cello box at the local mini mart and one of the packs had Eric Soderholm showing. Not sure why I remember that.

Don't forget a mint Dawson RC won't be a bad score either!

Love that set as well. Loaded with HoFers. I love the Ryan card. Of course the Dawson and Murphy cards are the desired ones.

Can't wait to see what you pull!

Heck I remember when the Armas RC was gaining some attention! Good to see the Fidrych (in high grade) maintains a mystique.

Back in the day, I accumulated five pretty decent Murphy rookies. Sold one and a Mattingly Topps RC to a dealer at a local show in 1988. Needed beer money. He gave me $30 and seemed really happy to get the cards from me. I highly doubt they were 10s. I probably made a great deal in retrospect. And that $30 bought a lot of Meister Brau.

Ah yes, 1988, my freshman year. Your story reminds me of a phone call I had with my Mom that year:

"Mom, can you bring my box of baseball cards marked "Stars" when you come up this week?

Why do you want your cards at school? Won't they get ruined in your dorm?

    I need to sell some.

I'll leave the cards at home....how much beer money do you need?"

    I had a cool Mom.
  • Sweet, I hope the best on your break!

I am interested in a few nice cards.

    I need:
    Don Money 79
    Eduardo Rodriguez 361

LMK if you get these and would sell them. Looking for NM-MT or better.

    Thanks

After those four National League games, Gorman Thomas was never the same, and neither were the Brewers, and come to think of it neither was I.

This was also the first year I opened a pack and I think this set has some of the best photography from the 70's sets. I'll pick up all-stars from this set in PSA 9 when I see them pop up.

Good luck and looking forward to some scans!

Traveling and only have my IPad so no scans. But boy, 77s are tough. Pulled nearly-there-but-not-quite Munson, Seaver and Fisk. Pulled what appears to be a perfect Gaylord Perry. Little else of note. 10 packs ripped, 5 to go.
